LE West – Ship Stock Control

A ship has to leave with a specified medical inventory. Certificates, expiry dates and quantities are not optional, and the old process was a set of spreadsheets that only one person could really follow.

We replaced that with one stock system: stock take, certificates, products with expiry, and a re-order that did not mean rebuilding the workbook. It ran on Visual Basic and Microsoft Office automation, the tools the office already had, so the crew were not asked to learn a new platform just to prove they were legal for the voyage.
